Between a rock and a workspace

We recently visited our newest neighbour in Walthamstow to find out what happens when you combine co-working with indoor climbing...

Yonder is London’s first indoor climbing (or “bouldering” as the sport is commonly called) facility combined with art studios, co-working space, café and a dedicated yoga room. Yonder is also the latest addition to the growing creative community in E17 and only a two-minute walk from Fizzy Walthamstow.

We met with James Harrison and Paul Vooght – the guys responsible for bringing Yonder to Walthamstow – for a tour of the exciting new facility. Paul explained to us how the different elements work together. Their vision for Yonder is a create community-based centre connecting people with likeminded individuals (it’s “more than just a climbing or co-working space”). We heard how they designed and built the space from the ground up to accommodate a diverse community of active people and creatives. The idea being to support the growing freelancer culture in London by offering a space where people can work, exercise, eat, socialise and relax – all under one roof.

Designed for climbers by climbers, Yonder is 900m² custom-designed climbing nirvana. That’s huge! With 4.5 metre walls throughout, a “top out boulder with slide”, a two-floor bouldering mezzanine, Yonder has something for everyone – veterans, beginners, old and young.

Yonder has three specialised floors catering to all walks of creativity – from a quiet desk area to a workshop for “hands-on, down-and-dirty making space” with top-spec wood and metalwork machinery and custom work benches. ‘Flexi desks’ can be hired on a monthly or permanent basis and costs are excellent value and designed very much with start-ups and new businesses in mind and to help give them the chance to establish themselves.

Yoga and Yonder go hand in hand and there’s a “fully tricked out” standalone studio with air filtration, sound system, ambient lighting. What a perfect way to unwind after a hard day at work or particularly tough climbing session!

Yonder isn’t just making waves amongst climbing, creatives and makers – it’s also family and child friendly. One of the best parts, Yonder isn’t just aimed at humans. Just like us at Fizzy, the team at Yonder understand the importance of making life easier for pet owners and have made it a dog friendly venue.

We’re really excited about Yonder coming to our corner of Walthamstow. You can find out here how Fizzy is also making life in Walthamstow pretty special.
