Big summer blow out (fun things to do near Fizzy)

As we head into the final months of summer – which officially ends on 23 September – now is the time to make the most of the sunshine and embrace all that London has to offer. With a million and one fun things taking place over the next few weeks, you don’t have to travel far from Fizzy to have a good time (we’re now in seven locations across the city). If you’re looking for inspiration, keeping reading!

London Wildlife FestivalFriday 9th to Sunday 11th August

An exciting new addition to the event calendar this year and designed to appeal to everyone, from nature lovers to city slickers, is the London Wildlife Festival in Walthamstow. Organised by the London Wildlife Trust, this festival is billed as London’s largest ever event dedicated entirely to the diverse nature and wildlife found in and around the boundaries of the capital. Hosted by TV presenter Patrick Aryee, the programme includes talks and debates by leading conservation experts, guided walks, and the chance to try bush crafts and willow weaving. Not one to be missed by Fizzy Walthamstow residents who live right next door!

Hayes Outdoor – Sunday 11th August

Now in its second year, this outdoor arts festival will bring sensational performances to west London. Featuring a diverse array of family-friendly acts, whether you’re 4 or 74, there will be something for you. Highlights this year include a display of choreography and puppetry telling the story of Greek tragedy Icarus by the Southpaw Dance Company. Ofir Yudilevitch will perform Gravitas, a routine which combines acrobatics and contemporary dance. Finally, the Avanti Display Group promises a unique and hilarious experience for the audience with ‘Full Circle’. And best of all, Hayes Outdoor is completely free!

London Dessert Festival – 17th to 18th August

If you have a sweet tooth, the London Dessert Festival in Spitalfields is the perfect treat. This festival promises to take people on a journey through different “experiential spaces and scented themed rooms”, with some of the best dessert brands showcased in four main immersive zones – chocolate, patisserie, frozen and vegan. If you prefer to drink your calories, why not try a cocktail hand-crafted by one of London’s leading mixologists? Or you can try your hand at dessert-making with a “Sundae School” class. The event at the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane is just around the corner from Fizzy Stepney Green. Tickets are £21.

One Day at The Disco – 24th August

Not sure what to do this Bank Holiday? If you’re a disco lover at loose end, why not head to One Day at The Disco. With eight of the genre’s leading artists on the bill, this brand-new festival will take place in east London’s Three Mills Island. Disco legend Derrick Carter will bring one of his much-loved sets to the festival and there’ll also be appearances from a top international and domestic line-up. The venue is only a short trip from Fizzy Poplar and Fizzy Canning Town – talk about convenient for our residents there!

Greenwich Comedy Festival4th and 8th September

Now in its eleventh year, the Greenwich Comedy Festival is a showcase for some of the biggest names in comedy. Set in the iconic grounds of the National Maritime Museum, acts include British Comedy Award winner Sean Lock, festival favourites Reginald D Hunter and Jason Manford, and ventriloquist Nina Conti. Top notch food and drink is also on offer, with a wide array of street food and craft beers available. We’re certainly looking forward to this one and so are Fizzy Lewisham residents who live 10 minutes away!

Epsom Food and Drink Festival8th September

Talking of food and drink, this festival in Epsom’s Rosebery Park is a foodie’s paradise. With free entry and more than 100 food and drink stalls, whether you’re after a stuffed gyro wrap, falafel box or a tasty bratwurst, there is something to cater for everyone. This is a family-friendly event that will include a bouncy castle and other fun activities for people of all ages.
